Virginia Nelson

Virginia Stouffer Nelson, 96, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, August 30, 2021 at Pinecrest Manor in Mt. Morris.

Virginia was born April 22, 1925 in her parent's home in Mt. Morris, the daughter of Boyd and Pearl (Butterbaugh) Stouffer. She graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1943. Virginia graduated from Coe College in 1946 with a degree in Chemistry and Zoology. In 1949 she earned her RN at Evanston Hospital School of Nursing, remaining in Evanston to teach Anatomy and Chemistry at Northwestern Hospital. In 1953 Virginia obtained her Public Health Certificate and began a new position at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

In 1955, Virginia had an eye appointment at Dr. Kortemeier's office in Freeport- her optician, Norm Nelson, was smitten and they married on July 15th,1956 . Norm and Virginia became part of the family business, Stouffer Poultry Farm and Hatchery, in 1957. In 1972, Virginia returned to the nursing profession as a Rockford School Nurse, retiring in 1981.

Virginia was an avid quilter, belonging to several quilt groups and organizations. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking great pride in their many accomplishments. Her love for animals was great- thanks to Lori for giving her beloved cat Mocha a home and bringing her to visit mom. Virginia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Forreston.

Virginia is survived by son Jeffrey (Kathy) Nelson, Huntsville, AL; daughter Kristin (David) Sible, Oregon; grandchildren Rachel (Dave) Fijalkiewicz, Lauren (Ryan) Gilbert, Christopher (Kelsey) Sible and Connor Sible. Great grandsons Samuel, Asher, Tyler and Lane.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Norman and her brother Sherwood.

Many thanks to all Pinecrest staff for your daily care and compassion. Nursing staff, these past few weeks especially, you've been amazing. You truly are a blessing in our lives. Serenity Hospice, there are no adequate words to express our gratitude.

  Services will be held on Wednesday September 8, 202 at 11:00A.M. in St. James Lutheran Church, Forreston with visitation preceding the service starting at 10:00 A.M. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery following services.   Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church, Pinecrest Activity Dept. and Ogle Hospice/Serenity.
