On Monday January 9th, 2023, Shirley C. Thompson passed away to the sweet songs of Elvis, at the age of 83. Born on November 10th, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Carrie E. Germond & Maximilian Stopenbeck. She was raised in the Dutchess Co. NewYork area, attending all the St. Mary's Schools in Fishkill, NY. She later received her Associates in Psychology & Business Accounting at Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL. in 1979. Going on to work for Eaton Corporation, Carnation, Holiday-Inn, Tri-Co and finally retiring from Dollar General Corporation in 2004.
On June 14, 1956 she married Donald E. Thompson of Bath, NY.
She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, shopping for antiques and camping. She was a beloved Elvis Presley fan, collecting his music, movies & memorabilia throughout her life, her other passion was the NY Yankees, never missing a game. But, most of all, she enjoyed time with her family & grandchildren, whether it be dinner, a game, performance or just coffee at Hazel's. She was an amazing friend, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and truly loved.
She is pre-deceased by her mother, son; George Edward, and husband Donald. She is survived by her four children. Donald Thompson (Janette Needs) of Mendota, IL, Donna Thompson- Cowley, Richard Thompson and Darlene Thompson of Mt. Morris, IL. She has eleven grandchildren; Kim Ellis, Bill Ellis, Dave Needs, Candace Rivera, Christopher Cowley, Carrie Cowley, Jay Bonnette, Christine Lawellen, Brett Russell, Cassandra Thompson & Virginia Macavoyich. She also has fifteen great-grandchildren and two, great-great grandchildren. She was truly loved and will be missed dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday January 16, 2023, in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL from 5-7pm, with a memorial service held at 6:30 pm, Pastor Craig Arnold will be officiating.
