Rodney Alan Poggioli, born June 28, 1947 at home in Leaf River, second son of Nina and Harry Poggioli, Sr., passed away November 12, 2019 at home with family in Leaf River at the age of 72. Rodney graduated from Leaf River High School where he played basketball on the team that beat arch rival Forreston for the Route 72 Conference Championship. He then played football for and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. He and Shirley (Williams) Stark were married at her family farm Sept. 5, 1982. Rod and Shirley have three children, Andy Stark (wife Haley and children Kylie, Skylar, and Trinity; Darlington, WI), Nicholas Poggioli (Ann Arbor, MI), and Whitney Mulrooney (husband Andy and children Mason, another expected in March; Byron, IL). Rod was co-owner and operator of Poggioli's Royal Blue Store in Leaf River, owned rental property considering his tenants family. He drove school bus for Forreston Schools. He often told the story about the week his passengers sang "Yellow Submarine" at the top of their lungs all the way home. Rod loved his family and his boxer Penny. He loved small town living and golfing with friends and family, fishing trips, going to Cancun, Mexico, watching the sunset with his wife on his motorcycle, dry-roasted peanuts, a Bud Lite and chicken strips at Fibbers, driving his golf cart with Penny in the passenger seat, bonfires, long walks, and banana splits. He coached Little League Baseball, was a Scout Leader, an EMT and volunteer firefighter, a member of the Lions Club, a board member for the Bertolet Memorial Foundation and the United Methodist Church. Rodney was predeceased by his parents Nina and Harry, Sr., father-in-law Robert Williams, brother Harry, Jr., brother-in-law Russell Williams, and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. in the Leaf River United Methodist Church, 104 E. Third St., Leaf River. Visitation will be held Friday, November 15, from 5-7 p.m. in the Leaf River United Methodist Church, Leaf River, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded after services. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Serenity Hospice and Home, House Rock Kids, and Leaf River United Methodist Church.
