Mary Russell Obituary

Mary Katherine Wiater (Russell) passed away on Thursday May 7, 2020 in KSB Hospital, Dixon, IL.  She was  born on June 9, 1939 in Upstate New York, near Utica/Lowville. She graduated from Lowville Academy.

Mary was one of the most supportive people her family knew. She was always willing to give the shirt off of her back, or the last cent in her wallet, to help the people around her. She supported her daughter Nina through her whole life, and helped to raise her two grandsons Ryan and Joseph with so much love and pride.
She loved to play Pokemon with her grandsons and even completed the first games before them. She had the greenest thumb, and could bring back just about any plant and grow it into a beautiful masterpiece. She always had 20+ plants she was nursing at any time.
She was a devoted single mother who worked long hours to raise her daughter Nina in Chicago. In 1999, she retired and moved to Mount Morris to help her daughter raise her children, and to be close to the her family. She was present at every soccer game, graduation, and major event for her grandsons.
Her favorite pass-time was discovered after retiring - garage saleing. She was always up early on a Friday or Saturday and ready to explore the surrounding communities to find those gems that others were getting rid of. She introduced her grandsons to gaming this way, and they are forever grateful for that.
Mary was the most dedicated (or stubborn) person, someone who loved with her whole entire heart, and a fighter until the very last moment. She was and is an inspiration for her daughter, her husband, and her grandsons, and brought them to being more understanding, patient, and hard-working people.
Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nina & Vinnie Miranda, her grandsons Joseph and Ryan Miranda, and her siblings Bernie, Lou, Theresa, Anne, and Ray.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother Helen, step father Eugene, brother Joe, and sister Pat.

A celebration of her life will be held in the near future.
