Leonard "Tobe" Hagemann

  Leaf River, IL, Leonard “Tobe” Hagemann, age 90, passed away on December 23, 2022 in Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, IL with his family by his side.  Tobe was born on March 16, 1932 in Leaf River, IL on family farm; son of August & Dorothy (Green) Hagemann.   He married Donna Stanley on April 5, 1953 and they had 3 daughters. 

  The outdoors and land were always his passion and calling.  He was a lifelong farmer; Sunset Acres Trucking business, and in later years he was a bus driver for Byron School District, where he loved spending time and joking with the kids, he was also a lawn supervisor for Forreston School.  He was also a Leaf River Township supervisor and trustee for 40 years.  Tobe was instrumental in placing a marker on Myrtle Road where Leaf River Township was formed.  He was a member of the Leaf River riding club and loved horses, riding in his childhood saddle on August of 2022.  He was a member of the Grange and Leaf River Lions.  His greatest joy in life was his family and going to the lake house with kids and grandchildren. Tobe always said kindness is love.

  He loved Oliver Tractors large and small, collecting and restoring them, and going on tractor “trail rides”.

  Tobe is survived by his wife: Donna; daughters: Julie Edwin, Chana, IL, Christy (Jim) Bachman, Leaf River, IL, and Shari (Randy) Martin, Forreston, IL; grandchildren: Tara (Brad) Johnson, Chicago, IL, Breann (Tom) Sublewski, Byron, IL, Tobi (Doug) Johnson, Winnebago, IL, Cody Hoting, Freeport, IL, Michelle Spooden (Ken), Belvidere, IL, and Jim Edwin, Rockford, IL; great grandchildren: Walter, Levi, and Amelia Grace Johnson; step grandchildren: Alyssa and Bryanna Morris, step great grandchildren: Ryder and Journi; sisters: Gussie Grove, Leaf River, IL and Janie McNames, Byron, IL; sisterin law: Kathleen Walker, Belvidere, IL.

  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Tom (Bernice) Hagemann; brother in laws: John Grove, Don Walker, and Jim McNames; son in law: Ray Edwin.

  Graveside services will be held in Lightsville Cemetery, Leaf River, IL for immediate family.
