LeRoy Comins, Beloved Husband, Father, and “Gaga”

LeRoy G. Comins, 84, passed away on January 10, 2022 surrounded by family.  LeRoy was born on August 21, 1937 to Lillian and Guy Comins in Wautoma, Wisconsin.  He proudly served in the U. S. Navy from 1955 to 1958.  LeRoy worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 33 years, starting his career as a letter carrier in South Beloit Illinois and retiring as Postmaster of Sterling Illinois.  

LeRoy dearly loved his family and visits from his children and grandchildren.  He treasured family vacations with his wife, Sue, and children and grandchildren.   He enjoyed and was known for his wonderful cooking!  LeRoy was an avid golfer.  After his retirement, he spent many years volunteering at the Mt. Morris Moose Club.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Roger (Riley) Comins, Oregon IL; daughter Tara (Jim) Miller, Prophetstown IL; daughter Lori Comins, Beloit WI; grandchildren, Joseph Harriett, Owen and Ella Miller, Bishop and Kairi Comins; sister Jenny Garber, Beloit WI; sister Mary Hager, Blue Diamond NV, brother-in-law Thomas (Monica) Lynch and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He is pre-deceased by his parents Guy (Kay) Comins and Lillian (Reuben) Bennett, sisters, Myrna Welsh, Carol Penewell, and Darlene Ward.  

The family would like to thank Dr. Harvey Einhorn and the staff at Swedish American Cancer Center, Father George and their St. Bride’s church family, and Heartland Hospice.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Bride’s Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Home, 405 E Hitt St., Mt. Morris, IL, on Friday January 21, 2022 from 2-4pm.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at the Mt. Morris Moose Family Center, 101 Moose Dr., Mt. Morris, IL 61054, on Saturday January 22, 2022 at 1pm.
