George "Greely" Myers

Mt. Morris, IL, George “Greely” Myers, age 83, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022 in Swedish American Hospital surrounded by his family.  Greely was born on May 25, 1939 in Freeport, IL; the son of Frank C. & Blanche O. (Wacaster) Myers. He lived in Leaf River until age 9 and then moved to Mt. Morris.  He graduated from Mt. Morris High School class of 1957.  Greely married Susan L. Corrigan on July 23, 1977.  Together they spent 20 years living in Vernon Hills, IL and the last 24 years here in Mt. Morris. 

In Greely’s younger years he worked as an off-set pressman for Kable Printing. He worked as a meat cutter and bartender.  Greely was proud to say he was an Eagle Scout and was a member of Order of the Arrow honor society for scouts.  Greely loved golf, fishing, bowling, playing cards, trivia, and had a knack for telling jokes and making people smile, but most of all he loved watching Casey and Kyle play sports. 

Golfing, he had 3 hole-in-one’s, 1 in Vernon Hills and 2 at Sunset; and in bowling threw 3 perfect 300 games.  He enjoyed the “Over 50” Men’s travel golf outings on Mondays at various courses.  He loved to sing karaoke and gamble with “scratch off” tickets!

He is survived by his wife: Sue and 4 children:  Jeff, Danny, Kim and Nicki.  Grandchildren:  Corey, Julianne, Casey and Kyle.  He is predeceased by his parents and a sister Doris Jean. 

Visitation/Celebration of Life services for Greely will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL. At 1:00 P.M., Greely’s longtime friend Frank will speak to honor the life of “Greely”. 

 Following the visitation, there will be a luncheon at the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge.
