Douglas E Avey

Mt. Morris, IL, Douglas E. Avey, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 19, 2020 in KSB Hospital, Dixon, IL.  Doug was born on June 9, 1937 in Freeport, IL, son of Earl & Martha (Paul) Avey.  He graduated from Mt. Morris High School class of 1955.  Doug married Donna Cruchon on October 31, 1958 in Beverly Hills, CA.  Doug and Donna returned to Mt. Morris in 1988 where they bought and operated the Mt. Morris Motel until 2004.

Doug was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Morris.  He also volunteered as a driver for the Senior Citizen Van.  He enjoyed amateur art projects, model building, reading, and mostly reading biographies.

Doug is survived by his wife: Donna Avey, Mt. Morris, IL; sons: Steve (Ron Rose) Avey, Cape Coral, FL and Dave Avey, Oregon, IL; daughter: Sandy Avey, Mt. Morris, IL; sister: Joyce (Larry) Wilson, Mt. Morris, IL; three nephews; and one niece.

Cremation rites have been accorded with Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made out to the American Cancer Society in his name.
