Debra Diehl Obituary

Debra Lynn (Nall) Diehl, 67, of Mt. Morris, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, after suffering from some heart issues earlier last month.

Debby was born to the late Buddy Roger & Marjorie (McCue) Nall, on December 8, 1955, in Beloit, Wisconsin. Debby married Brian Diehl on February 11, 2005. He was the love of her life.

Debby is survived by her three daughters, two step-daughters, one step-son, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren: Sarah (Chris) Lindstrom of Norton, MA; Sandy (Ryan) Kane of Rosemount, MN; and Annie Otto-Ludwig of Mt. Morris, IL; step-children: Michelle (Brad) Orsted of Mt. Morris, IL; Kera Diehl-Roschi of Byron, IL; and Adam (Holly) Diehl of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: Zach & Aubrey Lindstrom; Maggie & Brady Kane; Abbie Ludwig; CJ (Averi) Ostrander, Brian (Ashley Throw) Ostrander, Addison Orsted; Cade, Maci, Owen, & Alya Roschi; great-grandchildren Collins Ostrander and Ryder Roschi.

Debby, affectionately known as Ruby by her siblings and family, is also survived by her siblings, Mike (Mary Lou) Nall of Mequon, WI; Chris Nall (and partner Theresa Tarnowski) of Biloxi, MS; and Patti Nall-Diggon of Mt. Morris, IL; sister-in-law, Diana (Jim) Chapman of Shepherdsville, KY; brother-in-law, Alan Diehl of Mt. Morris, IL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father & mother-in-law, Donald & Ada Diehl and brother Todd Nall.

Debby loved life and welcomed anyone and everyone into her family and loved having a house-full of people. She also loved celebrating the Fourth of July, and having a party at their home on the parade route in Mt. Morris. It’s only fitting that she passed away after the fireworks ended in the early morning hours of July 5. Debby spent her working years using her artistic and creative talents as a hairstylist, mixing up drinks as a bartender, and later in life helping others beautify their homes with her work at Sweetwood Interiors. She absolutely loved being a grandma to her 12 grandchildren. Later in life, Debby enjoyed escaping the cold and spending time with Brian at their home in Sarasota, Florida. Brian and Debby enjoyed spending time with their dog Cee Cee, eating out, listening to live music, and going to the beach. Every year, Debby and Brian renewed their vows on the beach in Florida, something she absolutely looked forward to each February. Additionally, Debby enjoyed retirement life with Brian and going for long rides on the Harley, in the corvette, and in their t-bird convertible.

One of the greatest gifts Debby gave in life, was the gift of life to another family when she had her first-born, Kati Soland. Debby and Kati and Kati’s family (daughter Allison, granddaughters Rylee and Reese) were reunited later in life, and Debby was always grateful to have found Kati.

Debby will be remembered for her big smile, robust laughter, and welcoming heart. Visitation for Debby Diehl will be held on Friday night, July 7, 2023 from 6-8:00PM at Finch Funeral Home (405 E. Hitt Street, Mt. Morris, IL) with the funeral service on Saturday morning, July 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Judes and/or Unity Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at KSB Hospital in Dixon and Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, along with the nurses and care team at Generations in Byron and Unity Hospice.
