David’s passion for the Lord was evident as was his devotion to his church and church family at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in North Hollywood CA.  He was an integral part of the church including his dedication to the NoHo Home Alliance Drop-in Program for the local homeless population, held positions as the treasurer, and singing as a tenor in the choir.  David’s love of cooking prompted him to be at the church every Wednesday morning to start preparing and cooking the meals for the homeless population that came to the church.  David helped build homes through Lutheran Border Ministries in Tijuana Mexico.  Another big part of his life was his interest in geneoloy.

David was proceeded in death by his father, George and his mother, Lola.  He is survived by his son Daniel (Bonnie) James and daughter Janell James, both of California and near and dear to his heart.  Also survived by sisters, Janet Lawson and Louise James both of Illinois.  Nieces Mykil Hardesty (Scott Keilin) and Rebecca Lawson of Illinois, nephew John (Mary) Lawson of California, great nephew Caid Chenoweth and great nieces Samantha Lawson and Rylee Keilin, all of Illinois.  Also, many cousins, friends, and best friend Mike Czerwonka.

A memorial service was held at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church June 20,2020.  Per David’s wishes, he was cremated, and his remains will rest at West Grove Cemetery in Forreston IL in the Stengel family plot. An internment service will be held on Friday July 31, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in West Grove Cemetery, Forreston, IL, with Rev. Larry Jameson officiating; all are welcome.
