He was born May 22, 1926 in Maryland Township, IL, the son of William A. & Louise (Kreimeyer) Hartje. Squirley married Dorothy "Dee Dee" Kuntzelman on October 1, 1949 in Adeline, IL. He was self employed as a contractor. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Squirley was a member of Leaf River Legion, Mt. Morris Moose Lodge, Leaf River Fire Department, Mt. Morris VFW, Leaf River Lions, and Leaf River United Methodist Church. Squirley is survived by Wife, Dee Dee; 2 Sons: William C. (Anne) Hartje, Winnebago, IL; Steven (Debra) Hartje, Leaf River, IL; Daughter: Connie Hartje, Freeport, IL; 5 Grandchildren: Heather (Bill) Wooten, Mountain Home, Idaho; William K. Hartje, Winnebago, IL; Brenda Rosenbalm, Forreston, IL; Danny Rosenbalm, Mt. Morris, IL; Brian Rosenbalm, Leaf River, IL; 6 Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters: Alma Baker, Leaf River, IL; Bernice Davis, Leaf River, IL; and Lorraine Cheek, Mt. Morris, IL; and his loyal dog, Buddy. Relatives preceded in death Parents, and 9 Siblings. Funeral Service will be Saturday March 26, 2011 at in Leaf River United Methodist Church, Leaf River, IL with Rev. Kent Svendsen officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Freeport, IL. Visitation will be Friday March 25, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL.
