Walter Wessel Hachmeister - 85 11/24/1924 - 2/24/2010

Mt. Morris, IL - Walter Wessel Hachmeister, 85, passed away on February 24, 2010 at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris, IL. Walter was born November 24, 1924, the fourth son of Henry C. and Malinda (Wessel) Hachmeister. He attended Fairview school north of Mt. Morris and graduated from Leaf River High School in 1943. He served with the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. On August 18, 1956, he was married to Carol Rucker of Polo, IL in a double ceremony with Jim Melvin and Marilyn Bollman. Walter was employed by Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He was a long time member of Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He also served on the Stillman Valley Library Board, Friends of the Library and the PTA. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Sandra (Tom) Glendenning, Stillman Valley; son Kevin (Kris), Custer, SD; grandchildren, Karl (Meghan) Glendenning, St. Louis, MO, Ryan (Alison) Glendenning, Naperville, Malinda (Adam) Hurt, Stillman Valley, Lewis Hachmeister, Minneapolis, MN; great grandchildren, James Walter and Whittaker Glendenning and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Malinda Hachmeister; brothers, Ernest, Floyd, Herbert and Henry; a brother and sister in infancy and nephews, Gaylord (Corky) Hachmeister and H. Scot Hachmeister. Visitation will be Friday, February 26, 2010 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Finch Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Services are Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, 8195 Kishwaukee Rd, Stillman Valley, IL. with the Rev. Donald Holmertz officiating. Burial following at Plainview Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. prior to service.
