Virginia R Masters

Mt. Morris, IL, Virginia R. Masters, age 94, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home. Virginia was born July 18, 1919, in Evanston, IL, the daughter of Albert J. and Eva Irene (Knox) Boelke. Virginia married Donald E. Gardiner on July 15, 1939, in Evanston, IL. They enjoyed forty years of marriage and raising a family before his death on October 26, 1979. She then married Earl H. Masters on November 28, 1980, in Mt. Morris, IL. They enjoyed travelling and spending winters in Benson, AZ, before his death on April 23, 1995. Virginia worked as a secretary for the Evanston Board of Education, Banana River Naval Air Station, FL; Kable Printing Co., Mt. Morris; and her husband's accounting business. She was a member of the Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris (participating in choir, UMW, as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer); Ogle County Home Extension; Rock River Valley Girl Scouts; and on the Plainview Cemetery Board and Mt. Morris Senior Center Board. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. Virginia is survived by four daughters; Judith (Kevin) Johnson, Mt. Morris, IL; Donna (Scott) Huber, Dublin, OH; Carol (Mike) Evans, Monmouth, IL; Barbara (Mike) Phillips, Pittsburgh, PA; and two sons of her second marriage Earl (Linda) Masters, Bull Shoals, AR; and Ken Masters, Dixon; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother Gerald (Sue) Boelke, Monroe, WI; and nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sisters Irene and Marian, brothers Albert and Chester, daughter Anette Masters and three great-granddaughters Katie, Alissa, and Maddie. A Celebration of Virginia's life will be Saturday, April 19, 2014, with visitation at 2:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM at the Disciples United Methodist Church, 102 Maple Ave, Mt. Morris, IL. Memorials to the church or the Mt. Morris Senior Citizens Council.
