Mt. Morris, IL, Thelma M. Messer, age 94, passed away on Monday October 7, 2024 in Generations at Neighbors, Byron, IL.  Thelma was born on February 7, 1930 in Columbia City, IN the daughter of Alvin & Francis (Boschet) Ray.  She is a Mt. Morris High School High School graduate.  Thelma married William D. “Bill” Messer on July 12, 1948 in Adeline, IL; and Bill preceded her in death on April 12, 2015.

Thelma worked as a CNA for Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home for 35 years, retiring in 1990.  She was a member of St. Brides Church, Women of the Moose, and the Illinois Sheriff’s Association.

Thelma enjoyed her bowling, following her grandchildren’s sporting events, and she loved her flowers where you could always find her in the yard.

Thelma is survived by her son: Terry (Janice) Messer, Mt. Morris, IL; daughter: Sharon Lynn Maree, Mt. Holly, NC; grandchildren: Rob (Shelly) Messer, Todd (Kayla) Messer, Eric (Alfredo) Messer, Chris (Candy) Huffman, Dusty (Kim) Huffman, and Jay Huffman, 11 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and sister in laws: Betty Messer and Sandy Messer.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Jack, Jim, and Junior; and sister: Jeanette.

A memorial service will be held on Friday October 11, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL.  A visitation will be held on Friday October 11, 2024 from 10:30 A.M. until service time in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL.
