Susan Ellen Wright

January 18, 1958 — February 23, 2026

Susan Ellen Wright (née Sass), lovingly known as Sue and in her younger years as Suzie, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, in Peoria at the age of 68. She was born on January 18, 1958, in Chicago to Leonard Sass and Eleanor Gulbranson, who preceded her in death.

Sue was a proud graduate of Glenbard West High School. Throughout her life, she embodied the spirit of a true jack-of-all-trades. From owning and operating a small business in the sign industry to welding, bus driving, and working in realty, Sue approached every endeavor with grit and determination. She was most proud of being a steadfast “worker bee,” never afraid of a challenge and especially proud to run a small business within her community.

Independent, fearless, wise, and spunky, Sue was truly one of a kind. People often said, “She’s a hoot,” and it was true — her engaging personality and sharp perspective made every conversation memorable. She had a comforting voice, strong opinions, and advice that will be deeply missed. When life happens — big or small — her family will forever feel the instinct to pick up the phone and call her.

Sue’s greatest love was her family. She is survived by her children, Lisa Camire and Joseph Camire, and her cherished grandchildren Cameron and Paxton Camire, and Henri and Louie Camire. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and nothing lit up her spirit more than time spent with them. She also had a special love for her dogs and the simple pleasures of life — especially a cold glass of Chardonnay at the end of the day.

Sue leaves behind a legacy of independence, humor, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family. She taught those around her a simple but powerful lesson: family comes first.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Finch Funeral and Crematory, 405 East Hitt Street, Mount Morris, Illinois 61056. Cremation rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Sue’s absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her laughter, wisdom, and fierce love will echo in the hearts of those who knew her forever.
