Sheldon B Williams

Mt. Morris, IL, Sheldon B. Williams, age 84, passed away on November 3, 2018 in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL. Sheldon was born on May 2, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of Howard & Martha (Bate) Williams. He graduated from Peotone High School class of 1952 and he graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL with a degree in Sociology. Sheldon married Ruth E. Strickler on June 22, 1963 in Mt. Morris, IL and she preceded him in death on July 9, 1977; Sheldon then married Myrna (Lippert) Wissing on July 12, 1986 and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2016. Sheldon began teaching Jr. High English and literature in Mt. Morris the fall of 1959 and he retired in the spring of 1993 after 34 years. He followed the Chicago sports teams especially the Cubs. Sheldon played baseball and basketball in school, and then coached the Mt. Morris eighth-grade team for many years; he also coached T-ball in the Mt. Morris summer leagues. He was active in the regional theater (Plays and Musicals) for more than 40 years, he liked language, playing with it and noting its absurdities, he had good humor, whether he was hearing jokes, telling jokes, and reading humorist like Will Rogers. In his retirement, Sheldon enjoyed traveling across the country visiting family or just to see new places. A fan of things Irish and British, he appreciated the chance to visit England and see his mother's family homestead. Sheldon is survived by his children: Jennifer Williams, Richmond, IN, Christopher (Karen) Williams, Chicago, IL; Grandchildren: Samuel and Addison Williams, Chicago, IL; Step-Children: Stuart (Lela) Wissing, Mt. Morris, IL, Marcia (Chris) Wissing-Ruhl, Tucson, AZ; Step-Grandchildren: Logan Susini, Phoenix, AZ, Matthew Wissing, Oregon, IL, Emily (Jason) Severson, Elgin, IL; Step-Great Grandchild: Becca Severson, Elgin, IL, cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Sheldon is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Ruth, Wife: Myrna, 3 Brothers: Howard "Bill", Robert, and Roger. Funeral services will be held on Friday November 9, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mt. Morris Church of The Brethren with Rev. Virginia Haney officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday November 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mt. Morris Church of The Brethren. In lieu of flowers memorials to Good Samaritan Fund at Pinecrest Community and/or Mt. Morris Church of the Brethren.
