Mt. Morris, IL, Samuel E. Thomas, age 96, died Friday August 15, 2014 in Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, IL. Sam was born June 5, 1918 in Rural Ogle County, IL the son of Frank & LuLu (Hedrick) Thomas. Sam graduated from Mt. Morris Schools. Sam married K. Annette Towns on January 3, 1942 in El Paso De Robles, CA. Sam worked for Kable Printing Company for 45 years retiring in 1982. Sam served in the US Army during WWII as an MP. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Church of The Brethren, Mt. Morris Moose Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. Sam is survived by 2 Sons: Michael E. (Alexis Jo) Thomas, Plymouth, IL and Steven E. (Mary Georgeanne) Thomas, Villages, FL, and 1 Daughter: Samantha (Vern) Tillet, Worthington, MO. 8 Grandchildren and 9 Step-Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren, 18 Step Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, and Special Friend: Geri LeVar. Sam is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Annette; 3 Brothers: Kramer, Theodore, and John, 2 Sisters: Mary and Ruth. Memorial service will be Wednesday August 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in Mt. Morris Church of The Brethren with Rev. Virginia Haney officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be August 20, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. until service time in the Brethren Church. Memorials to Mt. Morris Church of The Brethren, Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, and/or Serenity Hospice & Home.
