Mt. Morris, IL, Rose Mary Sheely Avey, age 69, passed away on Thursday November 3, 2022 in Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling, IL; with her family by her side.  Rose was born on December 4, 1952 in Oregon, IL; the daughter of Orville & Marie (Jones) Sheely.  Rose graduated from Mt. Morris High School, Once a Mounder Always a Mounder.  Rose married Dennis Avey on September 26, 1971 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 1982.

Rose retired from Pinecrest Community in 2016, serving as the activity person and she loved every minute.

She attended Pine Creek Christian Church, and she was a member of the Mt. Morris Disciples United Methodist Church.  She served as a past cub scout leader, Sunday school teacher and superintendent of Sunday school, past board member of youth sports and Mounder booster.

Rose drove a van for the Mt. Morris Sr. Center in the 80’s, and she helped many seniors over the years.  She worked for Clarence Mitchell for 12 years.  She was obsessed with the Cubs and Bears, and she was a sports geek.  She loved driving around in her convertible in her retirement.

Rose is survived by her son: Keith (Kim Barnett) Avey, Mt. Morris, IL; Grandchildren: Stevie Ray and Spencer McCombs, Mt. Morris, IL; brother: Vince (Ericka) Sheely, Mobile, AL; step-brother: Lenny (Barbara) Wells, Mt. Morris, IL; step-sisters: Joan (Earl) Rowland, Polo, IL and Jean (Bill) Pilling, Mineral Point, WI; brother in law: Rod (Jan) Avey, Mt. Morris, IL; sisters in law: Laurel (Leon) Kilmer, Genoa, IL, Sherri Stiles, Clinton, IA, and Carol Avey, Freeport, IL.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Dennis Avey; son: Kraig Avey; and a still born baby.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 12, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. in the Pinecrest Grove, Mt. Morris, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded with Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL. Mounder gear and/or favorite sports gear to be worn during the celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Mt. Morris Fire Foundation and/or Friday Night Jamboree.
