Mt. Morris

Robert (Bud) L. Burke was born on August 11, 1948, in Oregon IL to Archie J Burke and Ada I (Stout) Burke who preceded him in heaven. Bud passed away on Friday April 17, 2026. He spent his early years enjoying life on an island in the Rock River. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the Navy, he got to visit Spain, Portugal, Scotland, and several other countries on the USS Alcor. After fulfilling his time in the Navy, he studied to be a machinist. He worked for a few years at Woods, before working 35 years for Kable Printing/ Quebecor/ World Color/ Quad Graphics.

He retired in 2010 and spent the next portion of his life enjoying his dream of living on a houseboat on the Mississippi River. He absolutely cherished all the time he spent on the river with his family and friends. Bud loved woodworking, fishing, camping, tinkering and building, and most of all his family and friends. He was often found relaxing after work at The Brass Rail and later Sharky’s with his friends. He was a kind, generous, loving man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was quick to share a funny joke/story, offer advice, or share his extensive knowledge. He loved sharing stories of his adventures on the island, in the Navy, and life in general.

Bud loved his 2 younger sisters Lois Smith, and Catherine (Charlie McCollom), 5 nieces and nephews (Lisa Smith, Tammy Smith, Brenda Miller, Jason McCollom (deceased), Kendal Pullen), and large extended family. Bud was married 3 times and fathered 4 children, whom he loved more than anything. Robert (Bob) Burke Jr. (Mary Wright): Emily 27, Abby 23, Nolan 15, Madeline 11, and preceded in heaven by Ean; Thomas Burke (Ashley Williams): Madison 22; James Burke (Kayla Norup); and Miranda Emery (Alex Emery): Jordan 8, Joshua 5.

There will be a celebration of life held on Saturday May 2, 2026 from 11AM to 2PM at the Oregon VFW Post 8739 – 1310 W Washington St, Oregon, IL 61061.
