Leaf River, IL, Richard G. Wood, age 80, died Tuesday April 26, 2016 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL. Richard was born March 28, 1936 in Ogle County, IL the son of Guy & Nellie (Fairlamb) Wood. Richard graduated from Leaf River High School class of 1954 where he was Valedictorian of his class; he then attended Northern Illinois University receiving a teaching degree. Richard taught school at Richmond-Burton High School for 37 years, retiring in 1997. Richard belonged to the McHenry County RTA, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and the Ogle-Lee Retired teachers where he served as membership chairman. Richard was a trustee and finance secretary for the Bertolet Memorial Library, member of Leaf River Historical Society, he was a Star Scout in Blackhawk Area Council, he became a private pilot in the 1980's, and he also loved his Ham Radios. Richard loved to Teach, garden, and his Thursday night suppers with the guys. Richard is survived by his adopted family: Bob & Cindy Wilcox, Leaf River, IL; Karshon (Adam) Schelling and Daughters; and Heather (Jeff) Wagner; and special friends: Art Studabaker, Joey Lovgren, and Jim Campbell. Richard is preceded in death by his Parents. Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 30, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL. Burial will be in Lightsville Cemetery, Lightsville, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday April 30, 2016 from 9:30 A.M. until service time in Finch Funeral Home.
