Richard "Hammy" Roy Highbarger, Sr, 86, of Mt. Morris, IL, passed away on December 28, 2024 at Allure of Pinecrest. He was born on May 14, 1938 in Mt. Morris, to parents Ivan and Luella Highbarger. He was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Morris High School. He married Dorothy Adams on September 28, 1973 at Mt. Morris Christian Church. He was a lifetime resident of Mt. Morris, and would retire from Quebecor Printing as a photo engraver, Local 91p Offset - Gravure. On July 27, 2024, he became a member of Mt. Morris Disciples United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his children: Barbie (Matt) Gremba of Harshaw, WI, Randy (Becky) Highbarger of Amboy, IL, Julie Spaine of Mt. Morris, IL, John Spaine of Oregon, IL, and Rich Highbarger, Jr of Freeport, IL; grandchildren: Kylie (Adam) Mairs of Ashton, IL, Bailee Highbarger of Dekalb, IL, Jake (Bethany) of Amboy, IL, and Charlie Gremba of Harshaw, WI; great-grandchild Baby Highbarger, who is expected in June 2025, and brother Don (Nora) Highbarger of Cocoa Beach, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Highbarger, and granddaughter, Abigail RaeAnn Highbarger.
A visitation will be held on Friday January 10, 2025, from 6PM - 7PM, at Finch Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. A memorial service will follow at 7PM, with Pastor Marcia officiating.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment of ashes and final resting place will be in Egan Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Allure of Pinecrest.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing home staff of Allure of Pinecrest, for the kindness, loving care, and friendship that was given to Hammy. He loved and appreciated everyone.
