Michael "Sparky" P Remhof

Leaf River, IL, Michael “Sparky” Peter Remhof, age 72, passed away on January 4, 2026, in his home with his children by his side. Mike was born on September 15, 1953, in Madison, WI, the son of Richard Charles & Doreen Mary (Simmons) Remhof. Soon after Mike was born his father went off to serve during the Korean Conflict; and Doreen divorced and remarried William E. Morrison Sr, who helped raise Mike.

Mike graduated from East High School in Rockford, IL in the class of 1971; and went into the workforce. He worked in various factories until he was hired at Sundstrand Aerospace in April 1979. He became a well-respected machinist and a vocal supporter of his workplace union, UAW Local 592. Mike was elected numerous times a steward and chief steward.

Mike married Karla K Heath on July 6, 1975, in Rockford, IL; and had two children, Christopher and Vanessa Remhof.

Besides his children, Mike loved the Chicago Bears and Cubs, working on cars, especially Ford Vans. He attended scores of Van In’s across the country with his favorite Ford.

Remaining to cherish Mike’s memory are his son: Chris (Terry), daughter: Vanessa (Yumi); grandchildren: Logan, Sophia, Yuji, and Yuna; brothers: Lester Remhof and Willie Morrison; sisters: Maureen Douglas and Maggie Neal; and longtime girlfriend: Joan Stanis.

Preceding Mike in death are his parents and brother: Matthew.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
