Michael Steven Penn

Leaf River, IL., Michael Steven Penn, age 67, passed away on Sunday September 1, 2019 in Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, IL. Steve was born on September 6, 1951 in Rockford, IL the son of Joe T. & Barbara (Goodwin) Penn. He graduated from Leaf River High School class of 1969. Steve married Nancy L. Weichman on August 13, 1977 in Leaf River, IL. He retired from UTC (formerly Sunstrand) in 2014 after 30 years of service. He began employment there as a machinist and retired as a manufacturing production engineer. Steve was a captain and volunteered on the Leaf River Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and loved his Green Bay Packers. In high school he excelled at football and basketball. Steve enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was serious or funny, when Steve spoke, everyone listened! Steve is survived by his wife: Nancy Penn; children: Mark (Lisa) Penn, Naples, FL; Tonya Penn-Snyder, Leaf River, IL; Joe Penn, Kingsport, TN; Grandchildren: Marlaina, Alyssa, Jaden, Trevor, Joseph, Olivia, Cameron, Morgan, Nicole, and Mikayla; sisters: Beth Hernandez, Julie (Steve) Cornelius, Lorna (Jeff) Parker, and Karen Penn. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; son: Thomas Penn; sister: Karla Mulford; grandchildren: Alexis Penn, Elijah & Micah Penn; and daughter-in-law: Donna Penn. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 12:00 Noon in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt Street, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev Frank Lay officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 AM til service time. Memorials to be established at a later time.
