Mt. Morris, IL, Merle B. Stutsman, age 87, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 in OSF St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, IL. Merle was born January 12, 1927 in Aurora, IL, the son of Bennett T. & Orpha G. (Frantz) Stutsman. During WWII, he served in the United States Army. Merle received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Manchester College in 1950. He married Lily Block on June 25, 1950 in Canton, IL. Merle was employed in Human Resources as a manager for Komatsu-Dresser in Peoria for 33 years, retiring in November 1987. Formerly a long-time member of the Peoria First Church of the Brethren, he was currently a member of the Dixon Church of the Brethren, American Legion, and Optimist International. Lovingly referred to as "Pops" by family and friends, he was an avid sports' enthusiast, including being a previous St. Louis Cardinal fan, recently converted Chicago Cub fan, & devoted follower of college basketball. Merle is survived by his Wife: Lily Stutsman, Mt. Morris, IL; Daughter: Rhonda (Kevin) Mikolajewski, Hoffman Estates, IL; and 2 Grandchildren: Alex and Morgan Mikolajewski. He is preceded in death by his parents, and Son: Kent. Merle has donated his body to science through Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL is assisting the family with his wishes. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date.
