Leaf River, IL, Leo Barney Jr., age 84, passed away from heart complications Thursday January 29, 2015 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL. Leo was born July 1, 1930 in Tomahawk, WI the son of Leo & Alma (Kluckman) Barney Sr. Leo married Katherine Robinson on July 5, 1958 in Rockford, IL. Leo was a proud member of The United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Leo was avid hunter and fisherman, snowmobiling, boating, shooting sports, travelling, spending time with his family, time at the lake, and gambling. Leo retired from Southern Imperial after 35+ years, and he also worked for Leaf River Valley Telephone Company, and he started the first laundry mat in Leaf River, IL. Leo is survived by his wife: Katherine Barney, Leaf River, IL; Son: Eugene Barney, Rockford, IL; Daughter: Diane Barney, Dodgeville, WI. 2 Grandchildren: Ashli Barney, Sycamore, IL and Colton Barney, Schaumburg, IL. Several Nieces and Nephews. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, and Brother: David. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Frank Lay officiating. Burial will be in Willwood Cemetery, Rockford, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday February 3, 2015 from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home. In lieu of Flowers memorials to Boy Scouts of America Blackhawk Area Council and/or Wounded Warriors.
