Laverne F "Twerp" Zellers

Leaf River, IL; LaVerne F. "Twerp" Zellers, age 90, died September 25, 2012 in the Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, IL. Twerp was born January 8, 1922 the son of Floyd & Ella (Johnson) Zellers in Leaf River, IL. He graduated from Leaf River High School. He served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. Twerp served on PT boats during campaigns in the Philippines & New Guinea. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with 1 star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Twerp married Mary Watts on November 11, 1949 in Mt. Morris, IL. He worked for Monroe Calculating Company, Rockford, IL servicing adding machines. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL. He loved to fish, cook, and garden. Twerp also loved his dogs, playing bingo, bowling, and serving time working at the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge #1551. He was a member of Mt. Morris Moose Lodge #1551 and he was a life member of the VFW Post 8739. He is survived by Brother: Keith (Carol) Zellers, Leaf River, IL; and many Nieces and Nephews. Twerp is preceded in death by Parents; Wife: Mary; 4 brothers: Walter, Robert, Royal, and Donald; Sisters: Florence Schreiber and Doris Kuntzleman. Funeral services will be Saturday September 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Frank Lay officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. Visitation will be Friday September 28, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home with a Moose Service. Memorials to Serenity Hospice & Home and/or Leaf River Fire Department.
