Mt. Morris

Larry Wilson, 78, of Mount Morris, IL, passed away on January 16, 2024, at his home with his wife and son by his side, after a two-year battle with cancer. Larry was born on October 17, 1945, in Martin, TN, to Irgy T and Effie Pocahontas Carmichael.  After attending Martin High School in 1960, he worked in construction and various other endeavors.  In 1967, he married Janice Yvonne Riggs of Parsons, TN, with whom he had two sons, Kenneth, and Kevin.

Larry lived and worked in various places including Havre de Grace, MD and Waukegan, IL before settling permanently in Mount Morris in 1973.  In 1977 he married Joyce Long, also of Mount Morris.  Larry worked tirelessly in his trucking and rental property businesses in which he maintained and repaired all his own trucks and rental properties.  Even with his industrious work schedule, Larry made time for hobbies like meeting friends for coffee, game night with his family, fishing, dog ownership, riding motor scooters, and watching car races.

Larry was a Christian for most of his life but became much more serious about living consistently with his faith as he approached middle-age.  He was a long-time member of the Mount Morris Evangelical Free Church and served for several years as the deacon of facilities there.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his four sisters: Joyce, Melba, Carolyn Oleta, and Wanda Bell.  He is survived by his children: Kenneth Hollister, and Kevin (Megan) Regal); stepchildren: John (Teresa) Lantz, Jeff (Sue) Lantz, Janette (Mark) Wolfe, Randy (Sue) Long; ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 10:00am on January 27, 2024, at Mount Morris Evangelical Free Church with a memorial service at 11:00am.  The church is located at 102 South Seminary Avenue, Mount Morris, IL  61054.  Mr. Wilson’s family requests that donations be made to Serenity Hospice in Oregon, IL.
