Julia Aiken, 90, of Mt. Morris, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at Pinecrest Manor. Julia was born November 12, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of John and Mary Bula. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Michael, Tony, and John and her sister Annie. She married Evart Aiken April 7, 1945; he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2002. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Ron) McNett of Mt. Morris, Karen (Rob) Urish of Mt. Morris, and Kathleen (John) Schupner of Flemington, New Jersey; her 10 grandchildren Chad (Staci) McNett, Erin (Ben) Gura, Janelle (Gregg) Meyers, Jon (Amanda) Urish, Jody (Aric) Frantz, Jennifer (Matt) Klosterman, Jillian (Taylor) Mills, Jill Cline, Sarah Schupner, and Kimberly Schupner; and 21 great grandchildren. Julia was raised in Brooklyn but spent most of her married life in Michigan. She worked alongside her husband Evart, as his bookkeeper for their business, Aiken & Ross Climate Control. After retiring, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and summered at their lake home in Northern Michigan. They moved to North Carolina in 1996 to be closer to family and remained there until 2006 when Julia moved to Mt. Morris. Julia loved to socialize, whether playing cards, enjoying going to the performing arts with her family, or playing Nintendo Wii with her great grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting with the women of her church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran of Mt. Morris. She also had a flair for decorating, she loved to read, and she was a fan of classic movies. A memorial service will be held April 2, 2016 at 11:00 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on Brayton Road in Mt. Morris. A visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a luncheon to follow the service. Memorials may be made to Pinecrest Manor.
