Mt. Morris, IL; John Roy Sundvall, age 93, died November 13, 2012, in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL. John was born April 6, 1919, in Seligman, Missouri, the son of Gust A. & Anna W. (Wallin) Sundvall. The family moved shortly thereafter to Jackson County, Kansas. John attended schools in Whiting, Holton, and Denison. He graduated from Denison High School the class of 1937. John's family then moved to Lee County, IL in 1938 and then to Ogle County, IL in 1941. John entered military service in November 1941 and served in South Carolina, Italy, France, and Germany. He served as a forward observation radio operator with the 45th Thunderbird Division of the 7th Army in Eastern France and Germany, participating in the liberation of Dachau. He returned to Mt. Morris to the family farm. John married Emma K. Haas on June 4, 1955 in Warren, IL, and they lived in Mt. Morris, IL. John worked at various assignments at Kable Printing Company for 36 ½ years retiring in 1984. He was past president of the bookbinders union, past master of Samuel H. Davis Lodge #96. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion, past president of the Mt. Morris Kiwanis Club with over 50 years of perfect attendance. John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, with service on the Church Board and as Sunday School Superintendent. He also served on the Mt. Morris Library Board. John is survived by Son: Eric Sundvall, Oregon, IL; Daughters: Karen (Ron) Larson, Mt. Morris, IL and Joan Sundvall, Rockford, IL. Granddaughters: Sarah (Bryan) Malloy, Fayetteville, AR and Signe Larson, Little Rock, AR. John is preceded in death by his wife: Emma Sundvall, Parents, Half-Brother: Clarence Newman. Funeral Services will be Monday November 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Marilyn Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, IL. Visitation will be Sunday November 18, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. till 3:00 P.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt Street, Mt. Morris, IL. Memorials to Mt. Morris Library Fund and/or Pinecrest Good Samaritan fund.
