Janet K. Lawrence

January 1, 1941 - October 17, 2026

Janet K. Lawrence was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Allure of Pinecrest.

Janet was born on January 1, 1941, in Brookville, Illinois, the daughter of Nevin and Ruby Moore. She graduated from Lanark High School with the class of 1959. Janet went on to study home economics at Northern Illinois University. Janet married Stanley Lawrence at the Evangelical Free Church on November 21, 1965.

A devoted homemaker, Janet also shared her creativity and talent through her work as a seamstress. She created beautiful wedding and prom dresses and provided alterations, helping others feel their best for some of life's most special occasions. Her skill, patience, and attention to detail were reflected in the work she did for so many.

Janet was an active member of Evangelical Free Church, where she taught children's Sunday school, sang in the choir, and worked in the church kitchen for church intermission. She was also a member of the Merry Martha Club and the Leaf River Christian Women's Club. Her faith and willingness to serve others were meaningful parts of her life.

During the later years of her life, Janet especially enjoyed the companionship of her beloved cat, Rascal, who brought her comfort and company.

Above all, Janet was a strong woman who was devoted to her son and family. Her love and dedication to those closest to her were an important part of who she was, and her family will remember her for the life she lived and the memories they shared.

Janet is survived by her son, Joel Lawrence, and his wife, Jill; her brother, Lyle (Pat) Moore of Brookville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Heidi Lessen (Chad) of Leaf River, Sarah Cann of St. Charles, Lindsey Ruzicka of Byron, and Lauren Schuch (Kevin) of Moline; and her six great-grandchildren, Luke Schuch of Moline, Lincoln Smith of Byron, Garrett Lessen of Leaf River, Cambria Cann and Gunnar Cann of St. Charles, and Levi Schuch of Moline.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Jill Pribble, Janet's sister-in-law, for her faithful visits and loving presence through the end of Janet's life. Special thanks are also extended to the westside wing 5 nursing staff at Allure of Pinecrest for the care and kindness they provided, and to Transitions Care for providing hospice care and support during Janet's final days.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Creek Cemetery in Mt. Morris, IL. A luncheon will follow at Evangelical Free Church in Mount Morris, Illinois. Family and friends are welcome to gather to honor Janet's life and share memories.

Janet will be lovingly remembered for her strength, creativity, devotion to family, and faithful service to her church and community. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on through the generations of family she leaves behind and the many lives she touched throughout her life.
