Mt. Morris, IL, Esther E. Buskohl, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 8, 2019 in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL. Esther was born on February 7, 1931 in German Valley, IL the daughter of John R. & Dolly J. (Smith) Baal. She graduated from Leaf River High School. Esther married Marvin Buskohl in Leaf River, IL on February 14, 1948 and he preceded her in death in January of 1997. She was a Data Processing Coordinator for Kable News Company, Mt. Morris, IL and the Farm Bureau and Farm Management in Freeport, IL retiring in 1985. Aside from her Kable News career, Esther was a devoted wife and mother. She and Marvin farmed in the rural Leaf River area for almost 50 years. Out of necessity and then as a hobby, Esther was a dedicated gardener who canned and froze many quarts of vegetables. While doing all of this, Esther became a well-known artist who shared her skills with various organizations and at Kable News. Together Marvin and Esther raised horses and mules, which they shared with the community in parades and other exhibitions. This inspired her to write her first book, "Honey, A Little Brown Mule." Other books followed along with teaching classes in writing. One of her favorite involvements was the Rockford Writers' Guild through which much of her poetry was published. Esther was also a member of the Leaf River & Mt. Morris Methodist Church, and she was a member of the American Donkey & Mule Association. Esther is survived by her children: Dan (Bonnie) Buskohl, Leaf River, IL; Joanne (Steve) Pennock, Oregon, IL; and Evan (Angie) Buskohl, Rochelle, IL; grandchildren: John (Genna) Buskohl, Sandford, FL; Dennis Buskohl, Indian Head Park, IL; Tom (Jamie) Nobis, Mt. Morris, IL; Megan (Jeremiah) Parker, Harmon, IL; Andrew Buskohl, Rochelle, IL; Jennifer (Scott) Cullman, Denver, CO; Beth (Steve) Fuller, Fishers, IN; and Becky (Jeremiah) Kaffenberger, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren: Gloria and Ezra Parker, Harmon, IL; Kate and Henry Nobis, Mt. Morris, IL; and Jackson and Anna Fuller, Fishers, IN. Esther is preceded in death by her parents and husband: Marvin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 12, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Disciples United Methodist Church with Rev. Julie Bunt officiating. Burial will be in Adeline Cemetery, Adeline, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 12, 2019 in the Disciples United Methodist Church from 10:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials to Serenity Hospice & Home.
