Douglas H Tuttle

Douglas Herman Tuttle, 73, formerly of Davenport, lowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Athens, Michigan on March 14, 2025. Doug was born on December 2, 1951, to Melvin and Catheryn (Calkins) Tuttle, Freeport, Illinois.

A graduate of Mount Morris High School, he was active in school plays and Mounder Varsity Football team as their center. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Army proudly serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Completing his military service to his county, he continued that service as a Department of Defense civilian. Doug's many achievements earned him awards and acknowledgments throughout the DOD community as well as our foreign allies.

Doug had many passions; he was an avid reader of the Bible encouraging many discussions. His love for steam trans was unmatched, he was a guest engineer on the Pere Marquette 1225, known as the Polar Express train. Many trips were taken for train expeditions and museum visits.

Doug is lovingly missed by his wife, Janice, children Jennifer (Scott) Stanton, Tipton, lowa, Aaron (Tarralee) Werling, Bluegrass, lowa, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, one great grandson and his many fur babies.

A Military Honor Ceremony conducted by the American Legion and VFW was held in Union City, Michigan attended by family and close friends.

In accordance with Doug's wishes cremation has taken place and a private burial service was held at Oakwood Cemetery, Mount Morris, Illinois

Doug's family would like to thank our neighbors, Athens Township EMTs, Nottawaseppi Huran Band Police Department and Lifecare for the care given to Douglas and the compassion expressed to the family.
