Morrison, IL, Dorothy E. Parkinson, age 87, formerly of Mt. Morris, IL, died Tuesday September 22, 2015 in Resthave Home, Morrison, IL. Dorothy was born on April 24, 1928 in Oregon, IL, the daughter of Karl & Emily (Sturn) Niklaus. She was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School class of 1946 and 1949 graduate of Chicago Wesley Memorial School (Northwestern) of Nursing. Dorothy married Hewitt C. Parkinson on June 17, 1950 in Mt. Morris, IL and he preceded her in death. She was an Occupational Health Nurse for Kable Printing Company in Mt. Morris, IL from 1949-1959, and for the Dial Corporation in Montgomery, IL from 1963-1992 when she retired after 39 years. She lived in Sun City, AZ from 1992 until 2009. Dorothy was a member of the Shepard of the Desert Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ; American Association of Occupational Health Nurse; Service League Northwestern Memorial Hospital; American Red Cross- Mid-America Chapter; she also served as a volunteer caregiver for a handicapped couple in Sun City, AZ; she was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and she enjoyed watching the Phoenix Sun's basketball team. Dorothy loved gardening, especially her roses; and enjoyed feeding and watching humming birds. Dorothy is survived by her Son: Steven (Carol) Parkinson, Ridgway, CO; Daughter: Patricia (Dr. John) Tomasino, Morrison, IL; Grandchildren: Jason (Jessica) Tomasino, Dixon, IL; Mark (Angela) Tomasino, Chicago, IL; Andrea (Layne) Berry, Pensacola, FL; Wade Parkinson, Silverthorne, CO; Ryan Parkinson, Bozeman, MT; Great-Grandchildren: Lilian and Caelan Tomasino and Step Great-Grandchildren: Dylan and Isaac Rollinger. Dorothy is Preceded in death by her Parents; Husband: Hewitt; and Brother: Robert Niklaus. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 17, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL. There will be a graveside service following the celebration of life in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL on October 17, 2015.
