Donald L Horst

Mt. Morris, IL, Donald L. Horst, age 98, died Sunday October 16, 2016 in KSB Hospital, Dixon, IL. Don was born May 1, 1918 in Mt. Morris, IL the son of John & Amanda (Stukenberg) Horst. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School class of 1935. Don studied music at Wartburg College, and he studied traffic management at the freight traffic institute in Chicago, IL. Don married Arlene Zumdahl on June 24, 1944 and she preceded him in death on September 22, 1998. He was employed 44 years at Kable News Company in the traffic department. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL, where he served on the Church Council and served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Don was also a member of the board of directors of the magazine shippers association, Ogle County Farm Bureau, Rock River Valley Traffic Club, Easter Seal Committee and United Way. Don is survived by 3 daughters: Christine (Ron) Lewis, Mt. Morris, IL; Donna Jenkins, Peoria, IL, and Debra Ovenden, Mt. Morris, IL; 10 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Arlene; infant son; brothers: Merville and Leland. Funeral services will be held Thursday October 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Josh Ehrler officiating. Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday October 20, 2016 from 9:30 A.M. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt.
