Carolyn Joan Rice passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of her family.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Michael Rice, who passed away in 2009; her parents, Harold Richter and Jessie Mae Richter (née Duncan); her brother, J. C. Conyers and sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Conyers; her sister, Lorraine Stokes and brother-in-law, Russell Stokes; and her sister, Patricia Buchner and brother-in-law, Richard Buchner.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Michelle Greene (Alan) and Jody Rice-Wagner (Martin); her cherished grandchildren, Krista Whaley (Evan) and Kevin Greene (Alexis); and her adored great-grandchildren, Harper Whaley and Lillian Whaley. Carolyn was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of her great-grandson Greene, who will carry forward the love and legacy of a family she treasured beyond measure. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who became family throughout her life.

Carolyn dedicated her professional life to the education and care of young children as a preschool aide with the Carol Stream Park District. She possessed a gentle spirit, a generous heart, and a natural gift for nurturing others. Her patience, kindness, and devotion left a lasting impact on countless children and families.

A lifelong artist and creative soul, Carolyn found joy in making beautiful things and sharing that joy with those she loved. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her grandchildren, creating crafts, making memories, and encouraging their imaginations. In her seventies, she taught herself to paint with oils, demonstrating the curiosity, determination, and creativity that defined her life.

Carolyn's greatest accomplishment was the family she loved so deeply. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, creativity, and unconditional love. Her gentle guidance, unwavering support, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have shared in her life.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Finch Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Carolyn's remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in Carolyn's honor to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. These organizations reflect the compassion, care, and generosity that Carolyn demonstrated throughout her life.
