Alvin Messer

Mt. Morris, IL, Alvin Messer, age 92, died Monday September 17, 2012 in Oregon Healthcare Center, Oregon, IL. Alvin was born June 29, 1920 in Pine Creek Township, Ogle County, IL the son of Lawson Bryan & Ida (Chambers) Messer. Alvin graduated from Mt. Morris High School class of 1938. Alvin served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945 in the 45th division. Alvin married Jean M. Pontius on March 9, 1946 in Freeport, IL. He worked at Kable Printing Company as a assistant pressman, and he also worked as a night watchman at White Pines State Park. Alvin retired in 1986. He liked to read Western books, and he loved to walk different areas with his metal detector. Alvin is survived by his wife: Jean Messer, Mt. Morris, IL; Son: Edward (Kimberlee) Messer, Mt. Morris, IL; 2 Daughters: Doris "Sandy" Doeden, Polo, IL and Suzanne (Tim) Kinmon, Sterling, IL. 8 Grandchildren: Jessica Doeden, Polo, IL; Laura (Phil) Gaulrapp, Polo, IL; Nathan (Shannon) Messer, Loves Park, IL; Matt (Kate) Messer, Polo, IL; Zack Johnson, Dixon, IL; Hilary Johnson, Dixon, IL; Kristy Kinmon, Sterling, IL; Kenny (Autumn) Kinmon, Oklahoma City, OK; Daughter-In-Law: Debbie Messer, Rockford, IL; Special Neighbors: Curt (Gloria) Ennenga. Alvin is preceded in death by Parents, Son: John; Brothers: Russ, Donald "Pug", and Lee Messer, Grandson: Shaun; and Great-Grandson Joey Geerts; Son-In-Law Jim Doeden. Funeral services will be Thursday September 20, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris, IL with Rev. Doc Newcomb. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL. Visitation will be Thursday September 20, 2012 from 10: A.M. till service time in Finch Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Jude's and Mt. Morris Public Library
