Marcia Lou Sweeney (81) formerly of Prophetstown IL passed peacefully in her home in Roscoe IL on May 21, 2016. She married Wilbur Eugene Sweeney in Mt Morris on April 1,1956. They moved to CA where Gene was stationed onboard ship USS Shoveler in Long Beach for 4 years. In 1961 they returned to IL. She taught in the public school system for 32 years. Their son, Bart Eugene Sweeney, was born in February of 1974. They moved to Prophetstown, IL in 1972 where they enjoyed 36 years of country living. After retiring from teaching, Marcia enjoyed seeing many of her students at Sauk Valley College while working in the lunchroom. She was an avid seamstress and is known for her delicious baked goods including many wedding cakes for local family and friends. Marcia enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, and skiing. Marcia and her beloved husband enjoyed many years of camping and fishing in the IL area parks as well. In 2008 they moved to Roscoe to be near their son Bart. She is survived by husband Wilbur (Gene) Sweeney of Roscoe; son Bart (Robin) Sweeney of South Beloit; brother Robert Diehl of Mt. Morris. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Mildred Woodward, and brother Chuck Diehl. An intimate family graveside service will be held on Friday June 3rd, 2016. Memorials can be made to any hospice organization of your choice. Memorials received by the family will be donated to the hospice organizations that have cared for Marcia over the past 3 years. The family will be hosting a celebration of Marcia's life in October of this year. Announcements with the details will be shared at a later date.
