Mt. Morris

Garland A. Krick passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on December 30, 1937, in Decatur, Indiana, to Harry and Marcile Krick, Garland graduated  from Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa, in 1955. He later studied Criminal Justice at Mount St.  Clare College in Clinton.

On October 31, 1959, Garland married Patricia Kelso in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In October  2024, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Garland dedicated his career to law enforcement, beginning in San Dimas, California, before  serving with the Illinois State Police until his retirement in 1992. He and Patricia lived on a small  farm in Mt. Morris, Illinois, where he enjoyed the outdoors, caring for animals, and landscape  gardening. After retiring, they moved to Lake Carroll, where he found joy in boating and golf.  Winters were spent in Ellenton, Florida, where Gar and Pat were fond of playing golf and euchre with  their many friends and family.

Garland took great pride in the lighthouse he built on his Florida property and in the statue of Our  Lord he placed at their home in Lake Carroll. A devout man of faith, he was a member of the  Knights of Columbus and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oregon, Illinois, as well as St.  Wendelin’s Catholic Church in Shannon, Illinois.

He and Patricia embraced life to the fullest, traveling extensively in their younger years to visit their  children and grandchildren in many countries. Garland was generous in life, known for sharing  stories, his sense of humor, and quick wit – always bringing laughter to those around him.

Garland loved his family and friends, and although he is gone, he will remain in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Krick of Mt. Morris, IL; his brother, Phillip Krick of Clinton, IA.

He leaves behind his eight children, Anastasia (Jeff) Mize of Sandy Springs, GA; Renee Krick of The  Villages, FL; Paul Krick of Winter Park, FL; Alana (Keith) Murray of Boise, ID; Allison (Brett) Vietmeier  of DeKalb, IL; Andrea (Eric) Erdmann of Forreston, IL; Jon (Viktoriya) Krick of Hickory, NC; Jay  (Genesis) Krick of Sarasota, FL.

Garland was a proud grandfather to 29 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, including: Abigail  Murray, Jared (Julia) Murray, Nathan (Lisa) Murray, Alexis (Arash) Einolghozati, Mallory Mize, Blake (Meaghan) Mize, Hannah Mize, Jacob Marshall, Alex Marshall, Luke (Morgan) Marshall, Ryan Mislich, Adam  Mislich, Emma Krick, James Krick, Ellie Krick, Ella (Ahmad) Nazer, Sawyer Vietmeier, Nora Vietmeier, Katie  Erdmann, Kara Erdmann, Kendall Erdmann, Lydia Krick, Sophia Krick, Liam Krick, Mercy Krick,  Asher Hey, Alistar Krick, Gianna Krick, and Fiona Krick, as well as great-grandchildren Cyrus Einolghozati,  Abraham Einolghozati, Natalie Murray, Eliza Murray, and Ryver Marshall.

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: Father Ron Kelso and Larry Kelso; sister-in-law Kathy (John) Brophy; and many  nieces and nephews.

Garland was preceded in death by his mother: Marcile Baty, his father Harry Krick and his wife Betty, his brother Jim  Krick, and his sister Kay Guenzler.
